City Council to Discuss Water Rates Monday Night
Water rates and the use of some state dollars for the city's water system will be discussed by the Galesburg City Council Monday night.

Aldermen are scheduled to hold a work session prior to their regular meeting to discuss water rates in the coming year.

The city upped certain types of water rates this year, as part of efforts to help pay off the debt on 20-million dollars in bonds issued to upgrade the city's water treatment plant along the Mississippi River at Oquawka.

The City Council in regular session will consider applying for a zero-interest loan from the Illinois EPA of over a million dollars that would help pay for flood protection at the new Oquawka plant. Not long after construction began on the new plant last year, the Mississippi River floods nearly completely took out the current plant and its power, causing a week-long city-wide boil order.

Aldermen Monday will consider also some additional work needed at the local Amtrak depot, and Mayor Sal Garza will issue a proclamation in honor of the late Army Specialist Christopher Talbert.

The City Council work session is at 6:30, and the regular meeting is at 7:30, all in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
