City Council Considers Transferring Library Donation Money to Library Foundation
A move that will officially move some money raised into the hands of the new fundraising arm of the Galesburg Public Library will be considered Monday night by the Galesburg City Council.

Aldermen Monday evening will vote on a proposal to, for one, expand the city's budgeted amount for the Library to $2.3 million, but for another, would allow for the transfer of $948,000 being held for the library, to the new Galesburg Public Library Foundation. The city says the balance of monies given to the library in the form of gifts and bequests would be transferred by the end of the year.

City officials say the foundation recently established a bank account that would hold on to the donations.

A letter written to the City Council by Library Board president Martin Reichel indicates that some of the money, while adhering to requests contained in each gift, likely could go toward the construction of a new library, quote, "in the not so distant future."

Aldermen Monday night will also consider the re-zoning of several properties around the Southard's Car Wash on east Main Street, from residential to business. Southard's owns the lots in question, and says while there are no plans to expand right now, they very well could if needed.

The Galesburg City Council will convene at 6:30 Monday night for a work session on water rates, then for their regular meeting at 7:30, all at City Hall.
