| Conditions Limit Galesburg Balloon Races |
UPDATED: 7/25/09 6:20am After a year hiatus, area residents and balloon pilots will have to wait until Saturday evening for a liftoff.
The breezy conditions at Lake Storey Friday night and the threat of severe weather in neighboring counties, had balloonists stuck on the ground for The Great Galesburg Balloon Race and the evenings nite glow. Weather most likey was the main factor in the cancellation of Saturday morning's flight.
Those who showed up to the race Friday night still took advantage of the grilled food available, as well as face painting and a balloon release for the kids.
Pilots of balloons said the conditions were just a little too windy to hold their competition, but they were hopeful the rest of the weekend races won't be grounded as the weather was sure to improve.
They expect to try for their first lift off of the weekend tonight at six, and one more time at 6am Sunday.
Saturday's events feature the launches, an arts and crafts show and more activities for the kids and a night glow.
Sunday will have a 5k run/walk.
