Mentoring Program Looks To Move Forward
At least one person that attended last week's People In Galesburg town hall meeting is looking to create a program to improve relations between young and old in Galesburg and to help teens through a tough period in their lives.

A Knox student who attended the meeting, Sarah Miller, says she's been in the process of trying to start up a program where teens and those who have gone through their teen years already can get together and talk, teach, and inform others to create a better environment in the community.

Miller tells WGIL talking with others can help a teen through tough times.

"I really believe in peer mentoring. It really had a positive affect on my life as far as learning how to cope with things you have to cope with as a teenager. Peer pressure, sex, drugs, things you don't necessarily want to talk to your parents about, or the authority figures in your life. Peer mentoring is a different and positive outlet in the right environment.

She said some of the topics that were discussed at the meeting, clearly shows the residents see a problem with the youth in Galesburg and says her peer mentoring group is a good mediating tool.

Miller also said she was once involved in a peer mentoring group that taught her to find self-confidence and self love, and give her the tools she needed to be a happy and healthy person and a leader in the endeavors she undertakes.
