Illinois Soldiers Returning Home
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Around 130 soldiers from the Illinois Army National Guard who served with the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are returning to Illinois after a year in Afghanistan.

The soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry in Bartonville and Company D, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry in Woodstock are scheduled to arrive home Thursday.

The companies are two of seven Illinois units that formed Task Force Bayonet.

During their deployment, the soldiers conducted hundreds of patrols. Three Task Force Bayonet soldiers died in action and one died in a noncombat incident.

The soldiers also helped with scores of construction projects in Afghanistan. That included building schools and bridges.
