Quinn, Lawmakers Still Working On Fixing Budget Mess
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn continues to meet with lawmakers in hopes of solving the state's budget.

Quinn met Thursday with democratic and republican women from the House caucus and the Senate caucus to discuss the state’s financial troubles and to brainstorm on ways to fix the problem.

Quinn called the meeting "inspiring" and said those at the meeting were "consensus builders."

Quinn says the state's budget gap is about $9.2 billion. He says the way the state could close the gap is by cutting $1 billion, receiving $1.8 billion in federal matching dollars and a by adding a source of revenue. He again touted an income tax hike as a way to make up the difference.

Quinn again talked about additional cost saving measures such as a two-tiered pension system for state employees and teachers.

Illinois started FY2010 on July 1st with a barebones budget which Quinn vetoed.
