Quinn Signs Energy Bill
Gov. Pat Quinn has signed a bill that provides financing guarantees for renewable energy, clean coal and agriculture projects.

Quinn says the bill he signed Wednesday will create jobs and help Illinois reduce its carbon footprint.

The state will make available up to $3 billion in guaranteed energy project financing for qualified energy and clean coal projects. The funding will come from bonds. According to the governor's office, any renewable energy project must first receive the blessing of the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.

"This legislation will help Illinois companies take a leading role in the green energy industry," said State Sen. David Koehler (D-Peoria). "It will create new jobs and move our state's economy in a promising direction."

Those projects approved by the DOC would also be eligible for federal stimulus dollars earmarked for green energy projects.
