Exchange Club Names "A.C.E."
Tracy Mitchell recently was honored as the Galesburg Exchange Club's "ACE" of the Year. The Ace award is presented annually to a high school student who has overcome adversity in Accepting the Challenge of Excellence.

The A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award recognizes high school students who have made a dramatic change in their attitude and performance sometime during their high school years, and are now eligible for high school graduation. These students have often overcome great physical, emotional or social obstacles, yet few receive recognition.

Tracy is a prolific volunteer, donating time to the Prairieland Animal Welfare center, KCAP, Discovery Depot, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Special Olympics and the Orpheum Theatre, all while excelling in her classes at Galesburg High School, overcoming a dysfunctional home life and working at Seminary Manor. Contributing to her continuing adversity, her family's finances took a hit in the recent economic slowdown and Tracy will be attending Carl Sandburg College instead of a four-year school.

The A.C.E. Award accomplishes two key objectives. First, it helps encourage students to overcome their hardships and get back on track toward a high school diploma. Second, the award recognizes those students who are often overlooked for their accomplishments. This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard work and perseverance really do pay.

Exchange Clubs throughout the United States and Puerto Rico honor a young man or woman as their club's A.C.E. These outstanding youth go on to compete for district and national awards.

Exchange, America's Service Club, is a group of men and women working together to make our communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities and the prevention of Child Abuse. The organization's goal is to ignite the spirit of community service throughout the nation.

The Exchange Club of Galesburg meets every Friday at noon at The Kensington. There is always an informative program. Guests and prospective members are always welcome.
