Quinn Meets with Rank and File Lawmakers
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn and the four legislative leaders haven't agreed on how to fix Illinois' budget mess, so Quinn is taking his case directly to dozens of rank-and-file lawmakers to see if that helps unstick the impasse.

The governor planned to meet Monday afternoon at his downtown Chicago office with suburban lawmakers.

It's the latest in a series of meetings Quinn is having with groups of legislators. Last week, Quinn met with more than two dozen women lawmakers.

Quinn is laying the groundwork before lawmakers return to Springfield next week to consider his veto of their stopgap budget. The state is operating without a budget while officials continue to try to plug an $11.6 billion hole.

Quinn wants to raise state income taxes but so far hasn't gotten enough support from lawmakers.
