City Council to Open Bids for Properties Tonight
The clock is ticking if you want to put a bid on a number of properties the City of Galesburg is looking to sell.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night is set to open bids on 65 different properties the city has taken ownership of, mostly through either the demolition process or other means. The process has come under criticism from the city council in recent years -- in part because of requirements in place that had required bidders to submit a development plan, and in part because some aldermen feel the city shouldn't be in the real estate business to begin with.

City Manager Dane Bragg tells WGIL the issue won't be resolved Monday night, however. "The council doesn't actually take any action (Monday night)," Bragg said. "We'll open the bids, and read them off, and then staff takes those back and prepares recommendations to the City Council that they'll consider in August for those bids. So that's a process that we go through every year or two to get that taken care of."

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will also act on moving forward with yet another list of proposed demolitions; these would be for properties on Emery, South, Water, Cedar, Farnham, Chambers, and Losey Streets.

Aldermen will also consider bids for replacing the hangar doors at the Galesburg Municipal Airport, among other items.

The Galesburg City Council convenes at 7:30 Monday night inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
