State Senator Kirk Dillard to Run for Governor
HINSDALE, Ill. (AP) -- State Sen. Kirk Dillard is officially throwing his hat into the ring.

Dillard scheduled a news conference in Hinsdale on Wednesday to announce his candidacy for the Illinois governor's office.

The suburban Chicago lawmaker has said he has the experience Illinois needs as it grapples with historic budget problems after two terms of Democratic rule that started with ousted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The 53-year-old Republican appeared in ads during last year's presidential campaign praising Democrat Barack Obama's bipartisanship when they served together in the Illinois Senate.

Dillard also served as chief of staff to former Gov. Jim Edgar, and he's been in the Illinois Senate since 1993.
