County Fairs Need More Private Sponsorship Thanks to State
We're now in the heart of county fair season in Illinois, and with less funding from the state, the private sector is picking up the tab to keep the summer traditions afloat.

Roger Grundstrom, chairman of the Mercer County Fair board in Aledo, says the Mercer County Fair has had to rely on corporate sponsorships. "Thanks to our corporate sponsors stepping forward, and we've picked up some new ones this year as well as retaining the ones we had, we're in really good shape going into the fair, and of course the state's not going to [have] decided what their funding for fairs will be until probably well after we've had the fair," he said.

Grundstrom says things are difficult because the state continues to decrease the premium reimbursement, from 66 to 43 to 31 percent.

The Mercer County Fair runs July 13-17. The full schedule of fairs in Illinois can be found by CLICKING HERE.
