McConnell Stumps for Mark Kirk
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R- Kentucky) visited Springfield Friday to stump for U.S. Rep. Mark S. Kirk (R-Highland Park), the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. McConnell claims that voters want some checks and balances, because they don't like the "change" that was brought by Democrat President Barack Obama.

Democratic State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias also wants the seat, which is now held by Sen. Roland W. Burris (D-Ill.), who is not running.

Kirk continues to be peppered with questions about his military record, but he's not answering. When asked about his prior claim that he's been fired upon in Afghanistan, Kirk said that he's apologized, spoke at length at a Chicago news conference, and would only provide copies of his service reports, and not comment.

McConnell, asked about the inaccuracies in Kirk's claims about his military record, says he thinks it has all been taken care of. Kirk held a fundraiser in Springfield Thursday evening, and another one in Jacksonville Friday morning.
