Galesburg Among Wettest Areas in June
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois climate experts say the state has had its second wettest June on record with an average precipitation of 7.8 inches.

The Illinois State Water Survey climatologist Jim Angel reported Thursday that precipitation was 3.7 inches above normal last month. He says that made June the second wettest since June 1902 when there were 8.4 inches of rainfall.

Records shows most rain fell in the northern two-thirds of Illinois. That's where rainfall of between 7 and 13 inches was common. Rainfall in southern Illinois ranged from 3 to 6 inches.

There were 13.24 inches of rain recorded in Galesburg and more than 10 inches in Havana and Lincoln. The average June temperature in Illinois was 74.9 degrees, 3 degrees above normal.
