Abingdon Pottery Show Saturday Starts in Abingdon, Ends in Knoxville
A piece of Knox County History that's also a piece of Abingdon history will again be on display Saturday.

The Abingdon Pottery Collectors Club will host their annual pottery show Saturday from 8am to 1pm at the Abingdon American Legion, displaying many pieces of pottery that were made at the old plant there over the years.

Marie Olinger, who helped start the club in 1977, tells WGIL the pottery show will move across the county in a way later in the afternoon.

"We're going to travel to Knoxville, to the Knox County Museum, which will be open from 2 to 4," Olinger said. "We'll be able to observe the Abingdon pottery collection that was donated.... Folks that visit the old Knox County Courthouse will now be able to see 300-some pieces."

Olinger says those pieces were all donated to the Knox County Museum by a former Abingdon resident who now resides in the Chicago suburbs. The pieces have been in the museum since 1994, and Olinger says it's the type of collection more people need to see.

She says there will be Abingdon pottery experts on hand throughout the day to answer any questions visitors may have.
