Rain Too Much for Some Parts of Corn Crop
It may look good if you're driving by it, but there may some problems with local corn crops developing.

Knox County University of Illinois Extension Educator Kyle Cecil says he's gotten a lot of questions about whether or not some of the crop in the area will turn out to be something, given there's a lot of uneven rows and places where growth has been stunted thanks to the rains.

Cecil tells WGIL there likely will be some parts of the crop that won't be worth anything.

"The corn that's stunted and yellow and has very short internodes, you know, once the internodes harden off not much growth is going to take place," Cecil said. "So there's going to some of those areas in fields and you can see some whole fields that are this way."

Cecil says there's likely not going to be much growth left there. But he says there is some good that could happen. If the soil dries up, Cecil says, whatever growth that will happen can, and great weather needs to continue.

Cecil says some more timely rains may mean overall, crops won't be too bad, but time will tell.
