Moffitt Says Budget Cuts Lack Some Details
A local lawmaker says he's understands what Governor Pat Quinn was trying to do with the cuts he announced Friday in the state budget, as heard live on WGIL, but says there was something missing: a lot of detail.

State Representative Don Moffitt says he likes Quinn's intention -- making cuts while adhering to core priorities like investing in education and preserving public safety among other things.

But the Gilson Republican tells WGIL other than some generalities, he doesn't really know what's being cut.

"The budget address, and the information we have at this point, is pretty limited," Moffitt said. "So, until I see all of those specifics, it's going to be a little bit difficult to say that I totally agree with them or not, prefacing that with, we wish we didn't have to make cuts. But it's a reality."

Moffitt says among the areas he is concerned about are proposed cuts in the Department of Corrections at a time when prisons are understaffed already.

And while he's glad the General State Aid foundation level is flat for schools, Moffitt says districts likely stand to lose anyway through cuts in categorial spending and in transportation.
