Brady Urges Quinn to Post Photos of Early Release Prisoners
The Republican candidate for governor is pushing Gov. Pat Quinn to sign a bill requiring the state to post photos of prison inmates released early.

The measure in question would require the Department of Corrections to post photos and other information about anyone released from prison early. State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), the Republican candidate for governor, says this is important for law enforcement and for crime victims who are keeping track of ex-offenders.

"The governor has posted the names of these individuals, but he has failed to post their pertinent information, aliases, photographs, aliases, other background information that's very pertinent to the public safety," Brady said at a news conference Wednesday at his campaign office in Chicago.

The bill passed the legislature unanimously in late May, and the 60-day deadline by which the governor must act is drawing near. The governor's inaction gives Brady another opportunity to criticize the governor's early release program itself, under which several hundred criminals were let out of prison early, typically a matter of months before their sentences were to expire. The governor and the Department of Corrections kept the program secret for some time.
