Giannoulias Says He Can Win Despite Less Fundraising
The U.S. Senate candidate who is trailing in fundraising says he will have enough money to win come November.

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, the Democratic candidate for Senate, says he has raised about $900,000 in the fundraising quarter that ended June 30, but those totals show he isn't keeping up with his Republican opponent when it comes to collecting money.

So far, U.S. Rep. Mark S. Kirk (R-Highland Park) has reported that he brought in $2.3 million in that same time period.

Giannoulias lagged behind Kirk despite fundraising help from White House officials. Giannoulias says he has also pledged not to take money from corporate PACS or federal lobbyists and that, combined with a rough economy, has made fundraising tough. He says he collected most of the money in June after dealing with the fallout of the failure of his family's Chicago bank. Kirk racked up his money amid a controversy over embellishing his military record.
