Home Stretch for Knox County Y's Capital Campaign
The head of the Knox County YMCA says it's hoping for just a few more dollars so it can successfully complete an expansion of its facilities.

Executive Director Linus VanderWyst says he has about $100,000 left to go in trying to raise $2.2 million for an expansion of its wellness center along with a new family gym and fitness studio, in addition to three new soccer fields and expanded parking.

VanderWyst tells WGIL the Y is making is easy for the public to contribute that last $100,000.

"We're doing a brick campaign," VanderWyst said, "where everybody would have an opportunity to buy a 4X8 brick for $300. There are 8X8 bricks for $500. It's someway to help support this project. People, obviously, at any time can still give to the project."

VanderWyst says a mailing about the brick campaign went out last week. He says construction on the expansion is continuing, and he expects the indoor expansion to be ready in the winter. The Y, the Galesburg School District, and Carl Sandburg College are all expected to host soccer matches on the new soccer fields.
