Fate of Independent Treasurer Candidate to be Decided Friday
A woman who is trying to run in the November election as an independent for Knox County treasurer will learn Friday if she can continue that candidacy.

The Knox County Electoral Board has scheduled a meeting for 3:30pm Friday to issue a ruling on objections filed against Penny Williamson running against Democratic incumbent Robin Davis.

Three Knox County Democrats -- local party chair Norm Winick along with Jim Jacobs and former County Clerk Steve Buck -- challenged the petitions.

The three claim that Williamson caucused with Republicans earlier this year, isn't a resident of Knox County, and used improper materials to fasten her application and supporting documents together.

Williamson, meanwhile, claims a hearing held last week on the matter was biased, because three members of the Electoral Board all signed Davis' nominating petitions, and that what the Democrats claim was a caucus really wasn't.

Williamson's campaign website claims, while an Independent, she'll support "the Conservative platform" if elected.

The ruling will be made in a second floor courtroom in the Knox County Courthouse, and we'll let you know what it is on WGIL and on wgil.com.
