Columbus Ships Visit Burlington, IA
If you didn't get the chance to see two replicas of two historical ships when they were in Peoria a few weeks ago, you can have another chance this weekend on the Mississippi River.

The non-profit Columbus Foundation has docked their replicas of "The Nina" and "The Pinta" along the Mississippi River at North Front Street in Burlington now through Sunday evening.

The foundation had both ships build. The Nina is a nearly exact replica and was built by hand.

Captain Kyle Frieauf is on the Nina now but has captained the Nina, and says people, children included, need to know what Christopher Columbus did and how important he was.

"This is the one guy that we can say, without any reservation, that he is the first guy that actually sailed across the ocean and established a trade route with the new world."

Frieauf was with the Nina five-years ago the last time the ships made their way to the Upper Mississippi River.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for students age five to 16. The Nina and The Pinta will leave their dock early Monday.
