New Juvenile Justice Director
A veteran of the Illinois' child welfare agency will be the new director of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Gov. Pat Quinn appointed Arthur Bishop on Friday to replace Kurt Friedenauer who resigned this week.

Quinn is pushing to combine the juvenile justice agency with the Department of Children and Family Services so that young offenders can get more treatment.

Bishop has worked for Children and Family Services for 15 years. Before that he worked on issues of substance abuse and mental health at the Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center in Chicago.

Bishop says he's ready to bring the agencies together which he thinks will reduce juvenile recidivism.

His appointment is effective Aug. 1.
