Unions React to Gov's "Furlough Days"
The public workers' union AFSCME Council 31 says it's committed to at least listen to what the governor has to say. Anders Lindall, the union's spokesman, says Gov. Pat Quinn is "whittling around the edges" of the state's financial problems by -- as announced Friday -- ordering 24 furlough days for non-represented employees.

Lindall says the fact that many AFSCME members work 20-40 hours a week of overtime shows the state is not very well served. He says it's not a good use of money and leads to stressed-out, burned-out workers. He points out the union has already agreed to defer $200 million in raises.

Quinn expressed a desire to talk with AFSCME, but Lindall says what the state really needs is a way to raise more money.
