Travel Picking Up Locally
Illinois is still on the long road to recovery from the economic recession but people are learning to spend their money meaningful ways.

Stay-cations, instead of vacations, became a popular and affordable alternative for families looking to cut their budgets.

People stayed closer to home and made trips by visiting local attractions.

But Becky Patterson, a local travel agent with Always Travel, tells WGIL people are starting to come out of that again.

"I think people really are tired of just the same-old everyday thing, and they want to do something special," Patterson said. "They know what they want to do."

Patterson says people who are planning trips need to make their transportation reservations far in advance.

She says Amtrak ridership is way up and fares, even to Chicago can cost as much as $100.

Planes fares are up as well, but Patterson says it can be combated by booking early.
