Blago Brother: Never Tied State Acts to Donations
CHICAGO (AP) -- Robert Blagojevich says that as chairman of the ousted Illinois governor's campaign fund he never tied political contributions to government business.

Robert Blagojevich testified Monday that he was told not to condition state actions on donations and he never did. He was on the stand as defense attorneys began presenting their case in the trial of both brothers.

The two have pleaded not guilty to taking part in a scheme to sell or trade President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat. Robert Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to plotting to pressure businessmen illegally for campaign funds.

He downplayed his importance in the governor's operations and said his brother often went into a back office with lobbyists to discuss things he wasn't aware of.
