District 205 Board to Consider Attendance Increase Plan
A part of the plan to save money in the Galesburg School District while keeping programs in tact will be up for consideration by the Galesburg School Board Wednesday night.

The District 205 board Monday night, in a meeting delayed a week and a half, will consider a proposal from a group called Leadership Matters to develop a marketing and incentive campaign to get more students to class.

The proposal, District officials say, would be part of a goal in the "Operation Program/Job Save" plan to increase average daily attendance 100-basis points, from just under 92%, to just under 93%.

The District would have to pay $51,000 to implement the plan, about half of which would be for materials such as yard signs and incentive funds among other things.

But they say if the plan is a success, and attendance meets or exceeds the goal, the district could receive an additional $216,000 in government money.

The District says Leadership Matters, a group of retired education administrators, implemented a similar program in the Peoria School District which was successful.

The Galesburg School Board also will discuss the budget for the coming school year when they meet at 7pm Wednesday at Lincoln School.
