Illinois to Help Kids From Military Families With School Issues
The children of folks in the military could have an easier time transferring in and out of schools in Illinois. Gov. Pat Quinn has signed into law a measure that's designed to help military kids with such sticky issues as entrance exams, sharing records, and handling required courses.

With the governor's signature, Illinois joins more than 30 other states in the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. State Sen. Deanna Demuzio (D-Carlinville), a sponsor of the bill, explained that these kids should not be penalized because one or more parent is serving in the armed forces.

Quinn also says this will help the Illinois military attract jobs, saying membership in the contract is a selling point for anyone considering moving to Illinois.
