State Construction Grants May Come to Knoxville Schools
The Knoxville District 202 school board spent a good portion of their meeting Wednesday night discussing a budget.

Despite the state's dire fiscal situation, superintendent Steve Wilder had somewhat good news for members.

"I got a phone call at the very beginning of the month from the Capital Development Board, who works with the State identifying who gets the money for construction grants," Wilder said. "(The caller) contacted me, I believe, because of the Mabel Woolsey (Elementary School) addition -- there must have been a construction grant submitted for that. At the time, funds were not available. I want to be clear -- she did not say they're available now, but they speculated that some of the funding may be available for some of the grants."

Wilder says Mable Woolsey is still far down on the priority list, and won't count on the grants. He added, however, the state did take the time to call and miracles can happen.

The board also approved a tentative budget and decided to call back five of ten laid off aides.
