District 202 Budgeting Low; Aides Rehired
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 7/22/10 State funding in Illinois is unreliable and often behind as of late. For that reason, new Knoxville school superintendent Steve Wilder is proposing a budget that expects General State Aid funds will be prorated for fiscal year 2011.

At a school board meeting Wednesday night, Wilder says he only budget for 80 percent of the what the state would owe District 202.

"The actual General State Aid worksheet that I completed to calculate as best we could, what our (GSA) entitlement is going to be. At the very bottom...the entitlement...looks to be $3.7 million. 80% of that is $2.96 million -- right at $3 million," Wilder said.

Wilder says if the school does receive its full allotment this year, the additional money will simply be added to reserves.

The proposed budget is a tentative one, and Wilder says the board will vote on a final budget at the next meeting in August.

The District-202 Board Wednesday also voted to rehire 5 out of 11 aides previously cut. Wilder says those rehires are not yet included in his budget figures.
