Ideas for Improving Great Lakes
Disconnecting the Great Lakes from the Mississippi River basin could keep out the Asian carp for good. That's what environmentalists commissioning a study hope.

Two groups -- the Great Lakes Commission and the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative -- are announcing an 18-month study to see what can be done.

David Ullrich, executive director of the Chicago-based Initiative, says the reversal of the flow of the Chicago River more than 100 years ago is to blame for such unintended consequences as the carp and zebra mussels.

Ullrich says it's too early to tell what the solution will be, but it may not be as simple as just re-reversing the flow of the river.
