Keep the Bugs Away!
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ Are you itching to have a good time this Fourth of July holiday weekend? You can and still keep those pesky bugs away.

State officials have a few ideas to protect against mosquitoes that can carry West Nile virus and ticks that can transmit disease.

To avoid mosquitoes, revelers should avoid being outside when they're most active around dusk and dawn, wear insect repellant and protective clothing. You can also minimize mosquitoes around your home by getting rid of sources of standing water.

Ticks can causes illnesses like Lyme disease and experts say you should check yourself and your children for tick bites every two to three hours if you're in an infested area. Wearing insect repellant and protective clothing will also help.
