Galesburg Unemployment Up
Local unemployment figures are moving back up after a few months of declines, and that's put Galesburg in an unwanted category again.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says a good portion of the state saw what they would describe as slight increases across most of the area.

But the City of Galesburg's jobless rate went up quite a bit. The June unemployment rate for the city is 10.4 percent. That's up almost a full percentage point from the month prior, putting the city firmly back up in the double digits.

Knox County's rate now sits at 9.5 percent, up from 8.8 in May.
Warren County's unemployment rate surged a point and a half to 8.3 percent.

Combined, that puts the state's Galesburg-area Unemployment average for June at 9.2 percent.

State officials say year over year, the area lost over seven-hundred non-farm payroll jobs. They say any economic recovery will come with slight moves in either direction for awhile.
