State Police Say 5 Headquarters Will Stay Open -- Including Macomb
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- An Illinois State Police spokesman says five of the agency's 22 regional headquarters that were slated to close this year because of state budget problems will remain open.

Capt. Scott Compton says officials are still reviewing how Gov. Pat Quinn's recently approved state budget will affect the agency.

But he says the agency was appropriated more than anticipated and can keep the offices open.

He says the agency doesn't anticipate major layoffs as was projected, but will see a reduction of troopers through attrition.

In March, State Police Director Jonathon Monken announced the five offices on the chopping block were in Litchfield, Carmi, Pecatonica, Macomb and Des Plaines.

The move angered sheriffs around Illinois who called it a threat to public safety.

The Macomb State Police Headquarters, District 14, covers Warren, Henderson, and McDonough Counties, among others.
