Cullerton Blames GOP For Lack of a Tax Hike
Illinois Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) is defending his fellow Democrats on the handling of the state budget crisis. Cullerton says the reason for the state's $5 billion backlog of unpaid bills is Republican reluctance to vote for a tax hike.

Cullerton expects lawmakers to take up the income tax hike issue after the November election. He says the only difference in whether lawmakers vote again is whether there are enough votes to survive a governor's veto, should State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) win the election for governor.

Cullerton laments that people don't realize that he sponsored an income tax bill that passed in the Senate, but not in the House. He says people simply don't pay attention to what's happening in state government.
