Sale of Lincoln Land Raises $100,000 for Charity
LERNA, Ill. (AP) -- The recent auction of deeds to tiny plots of eastern Illinois land once owned by Abraham Lincoln raised $100,000 for a charity group, and the owner has plans for more.

Dan Arnold is a Rockford businessman. He bought about 4 acres in 2007 just outside the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site south of Charleston. The land was once owned by Lincoln's father, Thomas, and later by the future president.

Reformers Unanimous is the charity. It works to help people with drug problems and other addictions in the Rockford area. The charity received 2,000 deeds and sold them in six weeks.

Arnold says he now wants to use his deed auctions to benefit other charities.

Arnold also hopes to someday turn the land into a Lincoln history site.
