School Officials Meet Again to Discuss Sales Tax Proposal
A group of administrators, school board members, and local residents representing every district in Knox County except for one now has a better idea of what they can and can't do in order to at least get people to consider raising the sales tax in order to benefit the schools.

The committee discussing the proposed one-percent increase in the Knox County sales tax met Tuesday night, and discussed their "homework assignment" of sorts from their first meeting last week.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill tells WGIL that assignment was to figure out who best can do any of a number of tasks to get the word out leading up to November.

"Some people on the committee feel comfortable making presentations, and some going out and doing some of that outreach," Cahill said. "Some people feel more comfortable with stuffing envelopes with literature, fact sheets, white papers, and the like. Other people feel comfortable putting yard signs out and going to their neighbors and finding those locations."

Cahill says the group will meet again August 10th to gage progress.

The Knox County Board will vote at their meeting Wednesday night whether or not to put the sales tax increase question on the ballot. That meeting is at the Knox County Courthouse at six o'clock.
