County Board Approves Storm as Recorder After Turning Down Other Pick
The third time is the charm for the Knox County Board.

Members Wednesday night approved Randal Storm of Rio as the interim recorder for the county.

Storm was approved, however, after the County Central Democratic Committee's first recommendation, Elizabeth Smith, was rejected.

Smith currently works in the county state's attorney's office. Despite the fact Democrats have slated Smith for the recorder's spot on the ballot in the November election, she was rejected by the board by a vote of 10 to 3.

As board member Allen Pickrel, a Republican, puts it, he doesn't want an interim recorder at all.

"We're into the last 90 days now; we've 90 days to election," Pickrel said. "I think it's very professionally-run office, running very well right now with a lot of integrity at this point. I don't see any reason spending the money to put someone in there for three months. Save the money now, and see...what happens in the election."

Storm was approved by a 8-5 vote. He ran the Mary Davis Home for more than 30 years and now owns a restaurant with his wife.

The board also approved placing the question of a one percent sales tax increase to benefit schools on the November ballot.
