Celebrating 80 Years for Engine 3006 Friday
Reaching age 80 is quite an accomplishment for most people, but even moreso for a steam engine.

The engine at Colton Park just outside the Railroad Museum will be 80 this year.

Museum President Harold Ziehr tells WGIL a party is planned to celebrate Steam Engine 3006.

"That's 49 years that it's been there," Ziehr said. "We hope to celebrate that birthday -- the 50th birthday -- next year with bigger fanfare than we've had for 80 years. Actually, it was my idea to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this engine being here. It dawned on me too late that this is the 80th birthday of the steam engine. We hurriedly put this package together to celebrate the steam engine."

The party will be held at Colton Park from 4pm to 6pm Friday.

Refreshments will be available and folks will be allowed to climb aboard the engine for a $1 charge.
