National Guard Warns of Online Scams
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois National Guard is warning consumers not to fall for an online buying scam committed by people claiming to be deploying soldiers.

Major Brad Leighton says the scammers have been posting items for sale on Craigslist in order to get buyers' personal information.

The sellers claim that they're deploying to Iraq with the Illinois Army National Guard's 139th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment in Springfield.

Leighton warns that all of these ads are a scam. The items for sale have included vehicles and Apple iPads.

The national guard asks anyone who comes across one of the ads to contact the FBI's Crime Complaint Center online. The address is: www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.
