Knox County Hold Courthouse Clean Up
The Knox County Building Committee is moving ahead with plans to clean out the county courthouse in Galesburg.

At an earlier meeting the committee scheduled a trash day for Saturday, to get rid of what they call junk stored on the fourth floor of the building.

Saturday at 10:00a.m., representatives from the treasurer's and clerk's office will have to report to determine what will stay and what has to go.

Board President Greg Bacon tells WGIL the clean almost didn't happen.

"So we picked these two departments to try to clean some things up. Just by chance both department heads are on vacation, but I didn't want to stop it because if I stop it we regress."

Bacon says only old furniture like, tables, chairs, or even computers will be tossed, but no records will be thrown out. The plan is to pull a dumpster up to the building and starting pitching whatever isn't needed.

The idea is to free up some desperately needed space in the courthouse to make it a little more efficient. This will also help in determining the future of the courthouse, whether it will be rehabbed or a new built instead.
