Quinn Fine with Senate Seat Future

Quinn filed paper work Thursday calling a special election to fill the seat, because of a long running lawsuit that says it should have been done almost two years ago. Lawyers headed back to court to hash out who will be on the ballot and try to minimize the confusion for voters.

The decision appeared to leave out U.S. Senator Roland W. Burris, who wants to remain in the seat for the duration of the term to which Barack Obama was elected in 2004. Burris was appointed in 2008 by then Governor Rod Blagojevich.

The court seems to be leaning towards a special election that will include party candidates who won the primary, as well as independents who collected the appropriate amount of signatures.

Attorneys for Burris say they may seek further court action if Burris is left off the ballot, something to which Quinn has no objection.

"My advice to anyone is follow your conscience," Quinn said. "If you feel that there's some kind of error in the interpretation of the court, that's what we have higher courts for, you can appeal."

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says it could be a busy time during that lame duck session.
