Independent Candidate Faces Petition Challenges
A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Knox County Courthouse for Penny Williamson.

Williamson is running as Independent for Knox County Treasurer.

During the hearing, Williamson will face challenges to her nominating petitions, brought against her by Democrats.

Williamson needs 1,500 valid signatures to make it on the ballot and she has turned in about 1,700.

Challenges include validity of signatures by registered voters, the binding of Williamson's paperwork -- it was clipped together instead of stapled -- and that Williamson caucused as a Republican in March.

Williamson speculates Knox County Democrats want to ensure incumbent treasurer and Democrat Robin Davis runs unopposed in the November election.

The Republican party has no candidate for the position.

The electoral commission hearing is scheduled for 10am.
