Alderman Reacts to City Manager's Pending Departure
You would think a top Galesburg employee on his way to another job would want to apprise aldermen of what was happening in case they wanted to start thinking about a replacement, right?

"Not me," Ken Goad, First Ward Alderman, said. "He might have [notified] some [other aldermen], but not me."

Although, Goad says he had a feeling something might be on the horizon when, he claims, he learned Dane Bragg's house was put on the market some time ago.

Goad tells WGIL that's not to say he doesn't blame Bragg for leaving.

"Most city managers, from what I've been told, only stay three- to five-years in one position, and then they move on," Goad said. "I'm not surprised that he's leaving."

WGIL asked Goad what he thought overall of Bragg's situation and his job performance.

"I think he's very energetic, and tries to do a good job, and has come up with some new ideas. Some have been accepted by the council, some have not," Goad said. "I think he's doing the right thing in advancing his career."

Bragg is expected to be appointed as Village Manager of Buffalo Grove later this month. Goad says he wants to have a replacement ready sooner rather than later, likely using an outside consulting firm for help.
