City Council Green-Lights Major Rezoning
A measure that was earlier tabled has been unanimously approved by the Galesburg City Council.

Aldermen voted in January to begin the Unified Development Ordinance, which included new regulations that went into effect Tuesday. The program basically re-structures the zoning designations of Galesburg.

Members voted to approve re-zoning of around 1,400 actual land parcels with the new designations Tuesday.

There was one exception, however, brought forward by Fourth Ward Alderman Corine Andersen.

"One of the properties which was listed as proposed for a zoning change is in the process of changing ownership,' Andersen said. "Knox College had some property which they are selling -- probably to be completed this week. So one lot will not be owned by Knox College anymore, and instead of changing that to an institutional zoning, I recommend that we delete that lot from the proposed change."

That land parcel will remain residential.
