Orpheum is In the Black for First Half of 2010
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 7/8/10 The president of Galesbug's Orpheum Theatre says she remains cautiously optimistic that the second half of the current calendar year will be just as good financially as the first.

Kate Francis says the Orpheum has a $21,000 profit for the first half of 2010, when she had projected a $11,000 operating loss for the period ending June 30th.

Francis tells WGIL she's not, in her words, counting her chickens before they're hatched, however.

"We've budgeted very conservatively for the revenue streams that we expected to see this year, given the economy," Francis said. "Thankfully, most of those have come in better than expected. Of course, we've been very dilligent in keeping our expenses as minimal as possible. The two, together, have just equalized out to a $21,000 profit for the first six months. But, again, we have another six months left to go in the year."

Francis attributes some of the profit to better-than-expected ticket sales for the first two shows in the recently-revitalized "Red Carpet Series", but she says more tenants are also using the theatre, and utility costs are decreasing.

Francis says $130,000 donated to the theatre's recent capital campaign is not included in the profit.
