Abingdon Public Works Superintendent to Retire
A City of Abingdon employee who's been around a long time will soon be leaving the city after several decades of service.

That's because the Abingdon City Council Tuesday)night voted to accept the resignation of Public Works Superintendent Kurt Links.

Links has been an employee of the City of Abingdon for just over 36 years, and Mayor Roger Stegall says Links will be hard to replace, and it's not like he'll really be gone.

"He's got a lot of knowledge and he's willing to help us in any way that he can," Stegall said. "He's going to help the new whoever-it-is that comes in. I already know that there's a lot of other places trying to hire him to work part time."

Stegall says Links is working through what otherwise would be a scheduled vacation for him. No reason was given for the retirement.

One alderman suggesting having a part-time contract drawn up for Links, but it's not clear if that will happen, or if that can be done.

Aldermen Tuesday night also voted to purchase a new mower for the city's cemetery.
