Seattle Man Arrested in 1957 Slaying of IL Girl
SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois prosecutors say a Seattle man has been charged in the 1957 abduction and slaying of a 7-year-old girl whose disappearance sparked a massive search and caught the attention of then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office said Friday that they've charged 71-year-old Jack Daniel McCullough with abducting and murdering Maria Ridulph.

The girl was abducted Dec. 3, 1957, and her remains were discovered on April 26, 1958, by two people foraging for mushrooms in a nearby county.

The prosecutor's office says in a news release that President Dwight Eisenhower and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover requested daily updates on the investigation during the search by more than 1,000 officers.

They say the investigation went cold after McCullough joined the military and changed his name.
