GPD Praises Officers In Wake of Shooting Investigations
It's no doubt been a trying time the last couple weeks for Galesburg Police officers -- with two shootings being investigated -- one of which was fatal, and the other being connected to a robbery. But a Galesburg Police captain says his officers were up to the task, and proved it.

Police Captain Rodney Riggs says the two shooting cases were all but solved when arrests occurred in both Thursday -- four people being arrested and accused of being involved in the Kiwanis Park shooting, and two teens being arrested for the alleged robbery and shooting of a man outside his Monmouth Boulevard apartment.

Riggs tells WGIL for the Kiwanis Park shooting, a big assist was credited to the feds through the U-S Marshals.

"The [U.S.] Marshals Service, their Fugitive Task Force up in the Chicago area, were given some leads by us on the suspects," Riggs said. "And they did some surveillance, and were able to arrest them up there, which they are in Cook County right now."

Riggs says the three could be extradited back to Knox County in the coming days. Two of the three were arrested by U.S. Marshals, while one more turned himself in. A fourth person was arrested in Galesburg.

Riggs says they've called on the U-S Marshals before, and will do so again.

In the meantime, he says a lot of officers locally working very hard both in and out of investigations led to the two cases being where they're at right now.
