Henry County Standoff Results in 1 Arrest
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 7/18/11 An Alpha man is arrested after trying to hold police officers at bay early Sunday morning.

The Henry County Sheriffs Department says their deputies along with Mercer County deputies, State Police with a K-9 unit, and Alpha Police, Fire, and Rescue all responded to the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Alpha around 5:50am Sunday for a complaint of an unknown subject.

Officials say the person making the complaint didn't know the man in his fenced-in backyard, but also believed he had a gun.

Special Operations deputies were alerted and a brief standoff later ensued, but 23-year old Benjamin Vinar was later arrested without incident.

Vinar faces a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, but deputies say more charges are pending.

Eyewitnesses told WGIL News an area around the home was evacuated for a time as a precautionary measure.
